motivation for free travel

Hello,

I'm from Peru. I'm new to this site and I don't know what is the idea behind staydu. Why do hosts open their home for free travel?
Do you as a traveler give something in return? What is the motivation behind host and travel free? I really would love to try to free travel by myself.

There are many reasons, I can host someone to exchange culture or service in return for accommodation. For example I can host someone to help in farm or gardening in exchange for accommodation and meals.

Chicerico!

I urge you to register here and get access to the discussions between our member!

You surely enjoy a change of environment, a break from the daily routine of life.

Imagine if you could visit exotic destinations you always dreamed of ! See how people live there, how beautiful nature can really be, something that we, living in cities have become blind towards! Hence people are willing to offer their homes, knowing that sometime in the future, they can visit the guest's home in another part of the world !

hope to see you on staydu soon !

cheers!

My opinion

I think coach surfing is one of the best ideas, it helps reconnect people and helps the human race remember to engage with those you traveled so far to be surrounded by, its the best resource to truly experience the culture your jumped in to. It helps those people lacking the money to broaden and open there mind to travel.
I like the simple purpose of CS. Putting the world a little bit closer, no hunt for money, no hunt for fame, just allow people to meet and talk and help each other, so easily.

Im in the process of making a host profile because i want to teach , learn and share things with like minded people and of course make new friends.
Surfers:After hours of hitchhiking around you finally reach the city you wanted to go. You give this person you never met before a call and after you arranged a meeting point and a time you wonder how this person will be like, because the only thing you know about him is the stuff you read in his profile and the sound of his voice. The very first moment you see your host and the first words are really interesting and exciting... when you leave again you won't look very different, but you have lots of new impressions in your memory and you'll think about everything you've seen, you have heard, you've learnd, simply: what you've expearienced in a few hours and maybe you see the world a bit different then...

In my opinion, there is no one but love travelling around the world, to see the world outside how is it look like, to experience new things and new cultures. For that reason, people love meeting new friends from another country, that's really awesome. I am a member on Couch Surfing as well and used to host for few peoples when they come to Vietnam, to take them go around the city, to share local food with them, and show them what interesting things in my country. I'd like making new friends and that will be more cooler if they come from another country. So I think it's not hard to understand that people like hosting their home to traveler in no return.

To have a real experience doing new things, meeting new people and feeling alive, being outside of the fascism of plastic life. To help someone, somewhere, that's real money :)

to meet new people from other countries, to learn more about their cultures by stories that they tell, that is more valuable than ever. somethings that cannot buy by money.

I really agree with all the pruposes.
I host more than I travel, because my kids are going to school, so we can only travel a few weeks during school holidays, but we all enjoy hosting nice people, so they can discover life in France, the place we live, and in return, travellers talk about their country, cook sometimes food we have never eaten before, teach us some words in their language...
When people are staying longer at home, they help in return in the house, or playing with the kids...
Free travelling is not only get a free bed, we are not hostels, but it's really an exchange.

Well we are going travelling this year so want to build up some experience by hosting people ourselves. In the past couple of months we have hosted about 7-8 lots of people through Couchsurfing.

And it has been really fun! It's actually really rewarding - meeting people from all over the world and learning about their cultures. Sure your power bill might be a bit higher/you run out of toilet paper faster but I think it's worth it :) and often, visitors will cook a national dish for you which is lovely or bring a small gift.

That said it can be tiring so we don't host ALL the time.
