Hello,
I have been looking for a project/farm to work with for a one week period, and your endeavors look fantastic!
I am an American student from Wisconsin, currently studying for 6-months in Copenhagen, Denmark. At my home university, I help manage our student run sustainable garden. We grow alot of annual vegetables, but are expanding the perenials – berries, garlics, onions, etc. We grow in a hoophouse, and make compost from the waste of our dining hall. We also have a small orchard and 5 bee hives.
Outside of school, I work with a new urban farm, where we are transitioning an old golf course to a more natural foodscape and park with prairie grasses. (riverviewgardens.org)
What I enjoy most about the projects and work I work with is the people! It is tricky to be travelling for many months because it is difficult to contribute long term to something bigger than just myself. And, the wonderful people I have been meeting I may only see for a shorter while. However, I am trying to live in the moment and create whatever is possible with the time and people I DO have!
I have a week break to travel (I wish it was longer) from April 13 – 20, and would like to do some serious work helping with a person who is passionate about the work they are doing — you seem to have the spark.
I am planning to build a solar oven or outdoor bread oven this summer and am interested in seeing yours, as well as your other projects.
When travelling and being a guest, I think it is important to live lightly and be as little a burden as possible. I have no problem cleaning up my mess and help with whatever. I am also conscious of my waste, and try to use as little as possible. I have slept outside for 7 months straight — its a funny story, and have no problem being outside — it is where I feel most energized!
I look forward to hearing back from you.
Thank you,
Polly Dalton
