Helping hands 4 Africa is a Community Based Initiative that started way back in 2007 with the plight of transforming the disadvantaged livelihoods in eastern Uganda live a better life. We are situated in Jinja district, which lies 80kms East of Kampala city, Uganda’s capital.

Uganda as a developing country is among other problems, afflicted by Civil wars, hunger, economic stagnation, extreme poverty, low literacy levels, and the AIDS pandemic that continues its deadly foray into every village. This calls for innovative actions that are designed and implemented to bring about change. Helping hands 4 Africa is actively pursing this at the grass roots.
As development partners, non-governmental organizations are proving to be more effective at grass roots where government hands cannot reach. Helping hands 4 Africa is one of the few grass roots organization based in the Eastern Uganda through partnerships offering educational, medical and nutritional services to the rural communities as well as helping to facilitate their social, spiritual, Educational and economical well being.

We derive our support from the valuable services of volunteers, friends, sympathizers, well-wishers, Christian and non-Christian resources as well as our dear partners in-country and abroad who offer financial, moral, educational and material support to facilitate our activities.

The founders of the initiative are much concerned about the increasing poverty levels, high prevalence rate of HIV/Aids, increasing number of orphans without any assistance, high unemployment, lack of respect of human rights and high illiteracy levels within the community.

Our volunteers are placed with our African host families to enable them have a wider exposure of our culture and life style

Expectations:

We have got a number of opportunities for volunteers from all parts of the world. Our short term volunteers stay with us for a period of less than one week to 3 Months.For those willing to serve on Long term, we have opportunities that run for a period of between Six months to 12 months (one year). We are glad to host any of the two categories that are willing to come and we serve.Volunteers need not any theological qualifications but need an openness of heart and mind having flexibility to serve as need arises. We have opportunities for:Loverâ??s of children who desire to share their lives with our children in our community. Volunteers here can use their professions as advantages, but no specific prior training is required. This category includes sponsors.Professionals such as dentists, nurses, primary health care workers, construction workers, graphic designers, accountants, administrators, etc.Evangelists, pastors, teachers of the word, apostles, prophets and all who desire to share their faith with others. We need Volunteers from all walks of life!Helping hands 4 Africa couldn't do all it does for the needy livelihoods in Uganda without the work of external support of people outside Uganda. We seek More Volunteers both Individuals and Organization Volunteers from U.S, Canada, Europe and many other parts of the world. We are currently seeking volunteers of all areas of their Interest/specialization and ability, for as long as you are within our framework of operation. Our intending volunteers should fill in an application form on request and send it back to us for confirmation.Below are the various volunteer opportunities currently available at Helping hands 4 Africa. Evangelism We welcome religious leaders from all over the world and our Evangelism program depends on a number of volunteers we are hosting.For Individual volunteers or those less than 10 are welcome at any time throughout the year. But volunteers coming as a Group i.e. 10-30 have got a special program arranged twice a year .i.e. from January to April and from September to November.Under this program, we mainly carry out activities such as door-door Evangelism, Spiritual healing, Guidance and counseling services to families in conflict, those affected and infected with HIV/AIDS, Youth with bad morals ,Schools ,Prisons ,and Hospitals ,as a way of reviving hope, reformation ,good morals and an upright religious community.Community HealthAll volunteers with skills in community health such as hygiene, Sanitation Immunization, and any others are welcome. Professionals are attached to our local hospitals and also carry out home visits to those who cant reach the hospital for treatment and are treated from their homes.Most of our volunteers in this category participate in cleaning of Water sources such as Wells as well as rehabilitating them, cleaning and painting of community health hospitals, etc. This program is done through the year. EducationThis project is carried out throughout the year. Volunteers come in at any time and are attached to any of our local community schools. Most of the activities involved in this program include Teaching, Sports activities, Music Dance and Drama, Computer training, Vocational Education i.e. art and crafts, etc. There fore any one with skills in the above can join us and volunteer with us any time of the year!Community out reach programsIn our community outreach programs in which we mainly deal with the Youth, Widows Elderly, Orphans and persons with disabilities. Our volunteers mainly empower our people with skills in hand crafts, Drama, Sports.They also assist the Elderly in their gardens as well as renovating and construction of their houses, Kitchens, utensils stands, etc.Volunteers wishing to come and spend their time volunteering with Helping hands 4 Africa can contact us at any time. Helping hands 4 Africa also welcomes volunteers throughout the Year who want to volunteer with us within their localities or countries wherever they are in the following areas. Food:

Our volunteers are encouraged to have a taste of our local dishes however we can help them to organize special meals. Concerning feeding our volunteers contribute some little money to supplement on what we have.
